Governance & Management

The governance structure of APCASO comprises the Board of Trustees (BOT) and the Council of Representatives (COR).

Board of Trustees

The roles and responsibilities of the BOT are in accordance with Malaysian legal requirements of a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.  The BOT is elected/appointed by members, and is mandated for two years. The BOT is ultimately responsible for the management of the organisation and conformance to the laws of Malaysia. The BOT respectively delegates the strategic direction of APCASO to the COR, and daily management to the Secretariat. The Regional Coordinator who is also Chair of the Regional Management Committee, reports to the BOT on the operations of APCASO.

Council of Representatives

The COR plays the pivotal role of providing the strategic direction for APCASO as the COR comprises key players at country and regional levels. They are drawn from the National Focal Points. Their individual and collective experiences of, and expertise in, issues related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic make them well placed to guide APCASO in developing the necessary responses required.

National Focal Points

At country level APCASO’s partners, known as National Focal Points (NFP), are mostly peak or leading HIV and AIDS organisations that bring together key organisations and communities for unified support and action in addressing mutual issues related to prevention, treatment, care and support. NFPs provide the essential links between country and regional levels, elevating challenges and lessons learnt from within to the broader sphere. APCASO’s NFPs are organised according to six sub-regions within the greater Asia Pacific region.

The Secretariat

This includes the Executive Director and full-time or part-time staff that ensure operational capacity and support to fulfill APCASO’s goals, objectives, strategies, and activities.
